That was Anna's revelation this morning as we walked around the Palace Museum, aka the Forbidden City. I've lost track of how many times Monica and I have been there. But the scale of it still amazes us. It is indeed more than just one building.
Anna peppered us with questions and comments:
We wrestled our three bags into town on the subway. We are staying on the 49th floor overlooking Zhongshan Park. What a view. From our room we look down on 40 story buildings. Some wonderful friends met us and treated us to dinner; what a joy to see them and hear how well they are doing.
Anna slumped in her chair and slept at dinner. She woke up at 3:30 am this morning so here's to hoping she actually sleeps past 6 tomorrow morning. We are off to see the Bund and PuDong with our friends tomorrow morning (Sat) the we fly to Guiyang tomorrow night. Our gotcha day won't be until Monday.
Anna peppered us with questions and comments:
- "I thought it was just one big building."
- "What if you didn't obey the emperor?"
- "What if you got hurt and couldn't carry the emperor around, would he still chop your head off?"
- "If I was the emperor, I'd sure want those people to carry me around. This place is huge!"
